inspired by my little brother, i set out to make a fiber optic glow ball (i dont actually know the technical term for them if anyone wants to help out with that). just started on it today and would love to do more with it.
currently its just motionless, i havent found a good way to pull the strands down in a curve as gravity would do. i figure i should try something like a curve guide (no experience) but i would love more suggestions. another goal would to be animation, moving the ball around and see inertia acting on the strands. is this even possible?
ive found that all the renders basically look the same so i only have one so far.
i decided that the ends were to long and didnt exactly look right. and made the strand a little more apparent further out.
Looks like a firework to me.
I can’t say I know how you achieved this though, so good work. Consider making the strands more visible, as opposed to just the ends and middle.
I’m still very inexperienced with animation techniques, so I’ll let someone else recommend something.
i tried z direction, not very hard, but i didnt like the result, i want more of a curve if anything. i realize that static particle interaction isnt apart of 2.42, but i wasnt sure if there was anyway to simulate inertia when i move the ball.
If you want believable movement when you move the ball you should try a build with Jahka’s particle patch, it has softbody options for static particles.
i just got RC2 but im having trouble finding much documentation on static particle softbodies. anybody know where i could find some? i searched the forum with out much luck.
If they are static particels (like hair or fur) couldn’t you just use the z-axis forces found next to the particle options (you know normals, random, dampening… ect.) to pull down the strands like gravity?
i am taking the image from my geocities account. that possibly could be why its not showing. ill see if i can move it.
ive never used patches before. i have downloaded the particle patch .zip and im guessing i just place it’s contents in with the other .dll files? i grabbed the patch off www.graphicall.org
I have little to crit on this, i think its more or less done, i would think that increasing the number of strand a bit and putting this into a scene would be all you need to do.
i have been going through a tut on particle physics and one of the key features it goes over is the psys button under: Soft Body. im not seein it on my window anywhere. im guessing that the tut was done with a previous version. but i still dont know how to assign the particle’s as a soft body. any help?
