Fighting off the Darkness

I am going to attempt an ambitious scene. This will involve some character modeling and some dramatic lighting. This is a straight up fantasy scene. A tired warrior, hunched over, slams his blade into the ground and creates a magical aura of light that surrounds him driving back the evil things that lurk in the darkness. Here is a quick sketch that I did on the wacom that shows the basic concept. Pardon my poor drawing skills.

Is this going to be an animation or a still image?

Cheers

David

This will be a still image.

I did a little more sketching, just because.

The pics aren’t showing up.

Interesting idea. I’m looking forward to seeing how you go about creating this.

Anyone else having problems seeing my pics?

i see one pic
sorry two

No problems here, probably a unique browser or internet problem.

Great concept. I’m looking forward to watching your progress.

Ok, I’ve begun modeling the body of the warrior. This is still pretty early stage so any suggestions about topology etc would be appreciated.

Note that I am using comic book super hero proportions so I’m not shooting for complete realism as far as proportion goes.

Fixed all that strange topology on the chest. This flows a lot better.

Refining the shape and adding more muscle mass. I want him to be beefy looking. I know in the sketch he looks kind of lean but I like him more muscular. Any thoughts on how this looks so far? Don’t be shy, speak up.

Here is a solid render. I realize the stomach area is not completely correct looking but since he’ll be bent forward with hair hanging down I’m not going to worry too much about it.

Hm… He almost looks like he is becoming overweight (looking at the side pic). Just seems a little too thick in the torso at the moment. Looks like good modeling and everything, though. It’s also good to see somebody who does concept work (and posts it).

I need to work on his love handles some. Also he will be wearing armor on there so it kind of sticks out a little more than his skin would. I’m going to make that look more clear as I get down to doing the details.

reminds me of zelda. The mastersword

Technically humans have either a 6 pack an 8 pack or a no pack but I’ve never seen a 4 pack…

Here are some updates.

hah, first thing i thought of when i saw the title was “i want to cast… magic missile!” if you don’t know what i’m talking about, search for it on youtube. if you DO know, high five! hahaha

your model looks pretty good so far, the main thing i see is the thighs look a little too bulbous at the top.

Ok, I seem to be having a hell of a time getting the shoulder area looking right. The more I push verts around the worse the topology looks. Anyone have some suggestions on how to get this area looking good? Right now the collar bone is too prominent and the deltoids look all wrong. It seems like this is the hardest area for me to model and since the shoulders and arms will be seen very well I want to get them right.

I could really use some help.

Here are some wires:

I haven’t worked at all on the back of the shoulders.

After looking at this bottom pic for a while it looks kind of like a chicken or something, lol.
