file step

hello,

the file step is one of the most requested

why Blender does not export files in this format? :frowning:

in the future it is likely that the file will export step blender?

would be a great help for all.

I never actually heard anyone request it

Hmmm…

Blender is not CAD.

Any CAD file must be converted to something Blender can import. In the case of 2D objects, DXF can be a good alternative, but 3D objects cannot be imported this way.

The best is to convert the .stp files to .skp, or (if you have Autocad, you can import the file, then export to FBX, use a converter to convert the FBX to the FBX 2013 that Blender can read, and import into Blender… Hmm… something seems wrong here :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) another format that Blender can read.

I “think” freecad (www.freecadeb.org) can help you in this.

As for stp format, i’m no dev, but since Blender is not CAD, chances are pretty Slim.

I have used Freecadand ABViewerfor that.

Step is a fundamentally different data structure. I highly doubt we will see a step exporter for blender ever.

what is step lol
