I run Blender on my Vista, it runs well and everything but how come sometimes when I save a file to the “Program FIles/blender/”(blah…blah blah) directory, the file go missing sometimes? by missing I don’t mean totally lose it, sometimes when I restart the PC the file(s) comes back again. I think its got something to do with the folder being a “read only” folder.
I managed to live with the problem for a while, until recently I have installed a newer version of blender, which for some reason, however many times I restart my computer, the files are still not showing.
You just shouldn’t save files to Program Files or Application Data, that is not good organization, and for many people with Vista, weird things happens. Just save under your User directory like you should.
I’ve never understood why on earth did people save their personal files in “Program Files”. Modern and well-written programs don’t even store their own settings there anymore.
If Microsoft did anything right with Vista, it was the implementation of LUA (Least User Access) by default. They shouldn’t have even made a “VirtualStore” copy of “Program Files”, they should’ve just put an ugly messagebox with a fat white-on-red X saying “Access denied”.
Just moving a directory will not make files spontaneously appear. This is not like saying “hocus pocus”, you know?
Check “%APPDATA%\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Blender Foundation” (copy/paste it in your address bar in Windows Explorer). If you can’t find them there, do a search for “*.blend” files on your entire partition (right click on the partition, e.g. “C:”, and click “Search…”).
