Filling a hole created by dissolve faces

I accidentally dissolved faces when trying to simplify a mesh and trying to reduce the amount of faces. I’m not sure why I should have done, but essentially, I had subdivded my plane and now just needed one face at the bottom of. What is the correct step to create a new face in this empty space?

Thanks,
Anthony

Delete the top face and then select the surrounding edges and use grid fill.

Maybe im misunderstanding, but if you select all the Edges around the empty space and then hit the ‘F’ key it will fill the hole with a face.

That’s what I thought! but instead of producing a face or an error, nothing happens when i press F or select Edges/Faces from vertices!

Thanks for this suggestion @GrimZA, but when I tried it, I get the error:

Loops are not connected by wire/boundary edges

Any ideas?

That sugggests maybe duplicate vertices somewhere, when you look in the status bar, does what you see tally up with what you are looknig at in terms of number of edges / vertices?

Would it be useful to just upload the blender file? It’s just a personal project to try and learn so i’m not precious about sharing it!

The error with grid fill is probably because of mismatched vertice number. You can try adding one edge loop on it. That of course will mess up your vertice density.
For this project, I would restart from beginning.
