I have created a circle with a number of circles inside and have joined all the circles into one object.
Now I wish to fill the area depicted with red in the attached image with faces.
Is there any way to do this? If I select the big circle in edit mode, and fill it with the “F” key, it will also fill the inside of the small circles. But I want those to be as holes…
I’m sure you’ll find that you will have to do all the connection manually. However looking at the shape you can probably cut down the time doing so by just doing a quarter of the model and then add a mirror modifier for the rest of the shape.
Here’s an example… Start by making circles with less verts for simplicity…
Add a mirror modifier after you’ve connected everything and then add a subdivision modifier to smooth it out…
But many thanks for the tip and image on connecting and mirror modifier. It also worked to fill the large circle. Then have all the small circles filled and as one object. Next, I extruded the small circles in the z-direction. Chose the large circle, applied Boolean difference (using the small circle object), and the results is shown in attachment.

The boolean modifier is definitely one way to do it (although the it might generate some weird and unpredicatble connections).
But as long as you’re happy with the result, all is good
