Filling in points

Ok- Im trying to make a logo. Ive traced my mockup with points connected by lines (imagine connect the dots). Is there any way to make a polygon out of this, especially a very many sided one? Ive managed in the past by just selecting 3 or 4 points at a time and making tris or quads, but this just wont cut it this time- I have about 300+ points. There are no “curves” persay, just connected points. Any suggestions? All the tutorials ive seen deal with curves, and a version of blender that is very old. Any help would be immensely appriciated.

Select the points(vertices as i know them) that you want to form a polygon from and press F. Works on edges(or lines) as well.

I know its hindsight, but I think this is a case where you should have used curves. You will have to do a great deal of work on the resultant faces to avoid wierd atifacts.

Yes, i know that its possible to make polygons with F, but you can make shapes with no more thhan 4 sides.

. I do agree that using curves would have worked much better.

Currently, N-Gons are not supported by blender. You can try selecting all the vertices around the shape and press Shift-F. This will fill in the space with polys, but they aren’t pretty. In order for Shift-F to work there has to be a closed loop of vertices.

I know it’s not what you wanted, but it’s the best thing to do besides manually creating the faces with F. Might as well start over with curves.

EDIT: Alt+J will get rid of some of the resulting tris from Shift+F

Oh, also, Im probably going to remodel with curves in the long run, but since the shape I made is flat, and Im going to extrude it anyway, the weird polygons arent really a problem right now. I just wanted to know what I could look like. Thanks for the help

Glad I could help.

Alt-F will attempty to beautify a filled area too.

You need really need to use curves.

I otherwise you won’t get those smooth contours.

Yep, I remodeled with curves, and it looks hella nice. Thanks people!

No pics! …

Not yet… its zbrush time now.
