As the title implies, I am look for a drawing tablet, preferable screenless, like Wacom intuos, and about $100 max, but and here is the catch, I don’t want to buy from China. Are there any such ones?
You can get a Huion 610S for 40 bucks on eBay from a non-Chinese seller ![]()
Like this
XP Pen, Wacom, and Huion are all made in Asia, I think XP Pen manufactures in Taiwan? And I’m pretty sure I had a Huion made in Vietnam once. Not that it really matters, a good tablet is a good tablet regardless of country of origin
It doesn’t matter how good the tablet is. I would rather not have one than buy from a communist country.
This could be difficult… because: you are sure nothing else in you computer equipment doesn’t use anything from china? Or anything else …
So i got curious and for example Wikipedia says for: Made In… → Country of Origin…
The 1933 Buy American Act requires that a product be manufactured in the U.S. of more than 50 percent U.S. parts to be considered Made in USA for government procurement purposes.
This surely differ in other countries.
Maybe buy a used one… the money is already gone to china. But then the seller may buy someting more from china…
(And we don’t want to confuse the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in short → China with Republic of China (ROC) → Taiwan … both are called republic… but the later is a unitary semi-presidential republic)
Also not easy: first i thought i found one https://www.xencelabs.com/us/about-us looking at the staff… but then https://www.trademarkelite.com/trademark/trademark-detail/88888554/XENCELABS …
This one http://platinet.eu/company/about-us/ from Poland ( Unitary parliamentary republic ) has “everything” (search for tablet in the shop)… so it also may use chinese products.
So: not easy.
Yeah, this is an excellent point. Even if you can find a drawing tablet manufactured in the USA, the components do not have to be manufactured in the USA for that label. Clothing “made in America” can legally be cut in the USA and sewn in China- most clothing makers do exactly this because it’s cheaper. Electronics make Chinese components even more unavoidable. Every chip in every electronic part was forged in Asia. The keyboard OP typed on, the mouse OP uses, the monitor and computer OP is using, all are packed full of Asian-forged and assembled components, even if they say “made in the USA”
Unfortunately for you, that’s probably not possible. You can basically not buy anything electronic that comes with a guarantee that it’s got absolutely, positively no components made in the PRC; the ecosystem that country has built for electronics is all-pervasive, and even neighbouring countries that have their own electronics industry buy components from the PRC. Welcome to capitalism!
Maybe you’d be ok with something that’s at least assembled elsewhere? But with drawing tablets you can’t even really get anything that’s guaranteed assembled outside of the PRC. Huion, XP Pen, Veikk, Gaomon, UGEE are all owned by PRC-based companies. Wacom is Japanese, but has manufacturing facilities in the PRC, which is bound to be way cheaper for them. I don’t know where Simbans is (they’re secretive, which usually means they’re in the PRC), but they ship out of Hong Kong (PRC). Xencelabs has a US presence, but if you dig a little you find out they’re part of Hanvon Ugee (PRC again).
Artisul tablets maybe? Designed in the US, made by UC Logic which is Taiwanese, part of the Sysero Group which is UK-based. But I don’t know where the tablets are assembled.
I’d give you a hint, but I think you can already guess ![]()
If you can buy it on an online marketplace, how communist is is really?
The much harder thing to find is non capitalist goods for sale.
China also hasn’t been communist in a good long while, not that that is really relevant here but just a fun fact
they’re socialist with capitalistic elements, they retained the name of “Communist” as political leverage and to create a sense of historical unity
I acept what people say about there not really being a way to not be be using something that is not partly made in China (Socialist is really just communist, and full communism is atheist)
Thanks for the comments.
If anyone has any other suggestions that is fine, but I am considering it closed.
