cool - but the Dof looks strange, makes it look a bit like tilt shift photography.

I turned the DOF samples all the way to 256, but it’s still noisy.

Ya the depth of field is too shallow.

You mean, too much?

lol take it off of preview dude…

or are you not using z-depth with defocus?

http://blender.bencrowder.net/depth-of-field/

in short:
In your camera settings there’s a ‘distance’ setting, thats to set the focus point for your dof effect. you can also use an object like an empty as a target.

then after doing that link the z value to the defocus node, and turn off preview.

Take it off preview? Fixed the noise problem. Wow. Can’t belive I’ve been using it on Preview all along.

ah much better

Also you could mess with the bokeh effects too like pentagon and square.

That’s pretty good… The tallest tower on the far right looks the most realistic by far and doesn’t look nearly as blurry as the rest.

Edit:

Btw, your signature bashing the new Google Chrome icon is awesome… We ought to make a petition for Google to fix what they ruined.

Doubt they’ll listen. There have been dozens of blog posts, thousands of comments, and even four New-icon-is-ugly bug reports on the Chromium Dev site.

Haha ^^ pretty nice

LMAO!
They are screwing with a lot of browsers these days that weren’t broken.
I used to love Firefox. Now I’m using IE for the first time ever. Always hated it. But the new one is pretty fast… if you don’t have a bunch of addons going…

Edit: why did the browser cross the road?

It wanted to get to the other side. Either that, or Google has been pressuring Chromium.

Firefox is okay, I guess. I hate IE, it’s all clunky, slow, and souped up, and Google’s corporate stench surrounds Chromium. I just don’t like the Firefox UI, which is part of the reason I like Chrome (Chrome is also still a little faster, though MF is gaining). The icons, especially the back and forward ones are horrible. What is this? The year of bad icons?

That last one is so much better  i would work on the background image… but the bokeh effect is perfect

To my eye and tastes, there needs to be a definite foreground-and-background. For example, what if this shot were being taken from some kind of balcony which is very slightly evident in the front of the frame? This would give us “a place for the photographer, and therefore us, to Be.” So that we don’t see ourselves as standing on the quicksand of out-of-focus lights.

It is also, I think, rather unrealistic that there is really no “in focus” area here, and no black-gap in which the focus-area could plausibly be “hidden.” A lens that does not focus on anything anywhere in the frame is, well, just “out-of-focus.” I don’t think that you could actually persuade a real lens to take a photo like this.

I think that this “photo” is good enough to deserve better treatment. Right now it sort of screams, “student murk.” If you had something you needed to hide, student-murk might be the cop out, but you really don’t have anything to bury here.

As already suggested a better background with a moon and some stars or a distant mountain range would complete this.
