Finished LOTR

Maybe this qualifies as a worthless Cubefan-esque post, but I finished reading Lord of the Rings last night. I loved it. Great book.

I love the book.
I hate the film.

I am about 1/4 way through Return of the King right now. The first 2 books were fantastic.

As far as the movies go, Fellowship was very good. The 2 Towers had too much artistic liscence in it for my taste. Didn’t follow the book all that much IMO. I am really looking forward to seeing Return of the King though. Just for the finish of The Two Towers stuff, (i.e Shelob’s lair, etc.).

I read that book at least once an year since I was 20

i read the whole book about 10 times in the last year and the english version with the illustrations of alan lee. the best book ever, i love it!
also liked the movie… they maybe didnt follow the book 100% but it’s the feeling that counts… and they definately captured that

anyone read silmarillion? i also enjoyed that.

.andy

Next on my list after I finish Return of the King.

I read Silmarillion, and the Hobbit of course, and the Unfinished tales, and the lost tales…

I haven’t read the books, So i can look at the movies from an unbiased point o view, and i enjoy them. I think that they should have just made one, 5 hour epic, but who’s counting… anyhoo, Yeah.

Thread in my liking.

I love the books (everything Mr. Tolkien has written) and and I love the movies.

Some of the die hard fans don’t like the movies but I do and I recon Tolkien would have been pleased as well. Tough there is not knowing that.

"Ramble on… "
"Sing mah song… "

My cousin’s son’s nickname as a kid was “Bilbo”

I liked the movie even though they changed some things.
But then I also liked the first Dune movie!
Aaah! runs for cover

i started on the books and i enjoyed what i read (the first page lol :stuck_out_tongue: ) but then something came up and i never finished it. I should pick it up again one of these days…

thanks for reminding me!

My goal for summer vacation was to finish FOTR, but now I’m already 1/3 done with ROTK (hmm, a lot of acronyms here ;)) I’ve just loved everything I read, and I’m attempting to learn a bit of Elvish, too (while not forgetting too much Spanish). I also love calligraphy, so I’m trying my hand at some Tengwar…

I liked the movies, but I can definitely see some shortcomings (like with Faramir’s character, for example, and in my opinion Théoden’s age). They also did a generally good job with pronunciation, especially on Saruman’s and Gandalf’s parts.

i thought i was the only crasy dude that loves this book, i’ve read it 2 times in spanish and know plan to read it in english, hope it’s better in the original language (i prefer the spanish name for aragorn as striker, striker was montaras or something similar). i’m even savingto buy the trilogy cuz i have the hobbit in english and i also haven’t read the silmarilion.
has anyone ine read the adventures of tom bombadil. i’m intriged about him

I like both the movies and the book(s), and I also love David Lynch’s interpretation of Dune. Much better than the HBO mini-series, which sucks IMHO, no matter how close they tried to stay to the original story, Lynch got the mood, the other guys didn’t.

I have a friend who sometimes gets behind on things. He told me I should watch the movie because it came first. I don’t know where he got that idea.

I have the Silmarillion, but I haven’t read it yet.

Bllllllllennnnnderrrr… myyy prrrrrrrreeeciousssssss!

I read the books before the big ‘Lord of the Rings’ craze started. Most people I know only read the books after the first film came out. I think the books themselves are much better than the films - I don’t need to be given an image to ‘see’ what’s going on, my imagination is so vivid.

I’ve never seen the films. My copy is three-in-one volume with a film cover, though.

i read the books after the hobbit and before the films, which i initailly (before starting to read) hated, then i read it and love it. the books are hell better, but the movie is great anyway wether it goes with the book or not, i truly miss that jackson left out the part of tom bombadil

I read it in elementary school. It was well worht it, because my literature teacher liked it as well, and I was the only one in class who had read it
Yeah, that, and it was a great book

I was trudging through “FOTR” when I saw the movie and immediately gave up on it. The film is awful, PlantPerson, so don’t see it. Your imagination is more than likely way better than anything anybody could put on film.

Though it’d be cool if there was some kind of film that took what you pictured for a character and mixed the imaginations of the audience with the vision of the filmmaker.

Anyway, I can’t understand what the big fuss over “LOTR” is. People talk like the trilogy has got to be one of the best things ever. I don’t think Tolkien wrote the trilogy down, then went and did everything else. I’m pretty sure he wrote “The Hobbit” first (which I have read, and thought it was an okay book) for his kids. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t grow up so depraved of entertainment that they need their father to make up stories about some mystical world with midgets.

Okay, I’m kind of rambling, so…
