I have just started Win10 this evening as I normally do when I get in from work. This time, and not for the first time, I looked at the screen and Firefox launched without me touching the laptop! In fact I was using my phone at the time and the mouse for the PC was not even turned on so it could not have been an accidental click on my part. This has happened before, always with Firefox launching itself.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen? I think it has something to do with Cortana. Even though I never use voice activation I think Windows has learnt which program I use most and launches it ready for me.
A bit disconcerting though.
I would scan for malware. Ive had the odd malicious thing that launches a browser and tries to load a website in order to artificially raise advertising impressions to gain commission.
Does it just load the browser, or try to go to a website too?
Just the browser launches to the Google home page. Doesn’t try to load any websites or anything and I can use it as normal.
I wonder if theres a windows equivalent to Little Snitch. It would tell you what is connecting to the outside world and to where.
Somethings obviously try do “something”. If your lucky, its windows trying to be helpful. If your unlucky its a virus or malware. I would still run a scan with a descent scanner like Nod32.
Yep, as soon as I get back to the laptop I’m going to do a scan. Thanks for the help.
