Tell me what you think
Cool image. Sometimes a little to much reflections. Especially on the table.
I saw your WIP thread on this.
Nice work.
Personnaly i find that the camera isn’t focused enough, I don’t know what i’m meant to be looking at; however the modelling and texturing and lighting ect. is wondefull, i just think it might need a different camera angle or something
I think the desk material looks slimey and I feel like I need to pull the monitor away from the edge before it falls off. But other than that, I like it. Pretty darn good for a 1st image
I agree that the reflections are a little too strong. Make it a bit grubbier.
Also, I’d add a couple of sheets of scribbled-on paper to the empty space on the desk. Or a keyboard. (No, I haven’t got the skill to model a keyboard.)
Suggestions aside, I like it. The desk’s wood texture is damn-near perfect.
I was going to make a mouse and the keyboard, but i got fed up with it and said screw it . The wood texture is procedural. I got it from the guy who posted it in my WIP. I just fiddled with the settings a bunch to get what i wanted. I might render it again, but it takes a couple hours :x I hate my slow computer. Thanks for the replies at first i thought I wouldnt get any because it got bumped down so quickly.
Great piece of work. I’d agree that the reflection on the monitor too high
i agree with the previous comments about the monitor being too reflective, and the desk bump is too big, and the desk texture is slightly weird. the material on the picture frame is kind of weird too. otherwise it looks really good.
Very nice, especially it being your first work and all. Good thing you found the anti-alising and shadow buttons, most newbies take longer to find them :P.
I agree with the monitor needing to be less reflective, or even not reflective. And ehm, doesn’t there need to be a black or grey edge around the screen? And perhaps some buttons.
Good work though.
Two hours to render? Is that because it’s a complex scene, or because your machine needs a bit of new hardware?
I’ve not rendered anything that took more than thirty seconds for one frame, but I’m really not very good with anything that isn’t square, so the scenes aren’t exactly loaded with vertices.
I’m running a P4 2.4GHz with 512MB RDRAM. It’s three years old, but it still runs well. I’ll wait for the AMD 64 X2 range before I upgrade.
Odd, I have a four-years old 700mhz with 128MB, and I can render a vertex-filled (see my topic down here) scene with a lot of raytracing, full OSA, and such within two hours.
Its not really the number of verts that affects render times by huge amounts. The thing that really kills rendering time is AO (say 256 samples) combined with complex lighting and high raydepth for reflections etc. Of course there is also YAFRAY hdri and caustics that take render times to the next level.
As for the image I like it, it is well executed.
As for crits…as others have said it seems to lack a focal point. Another thing that bugs me is that this has been done a million times before, a desk with random stuff on it. I’ve done these images as well and I’m not saying you’re unoriginal but you could stretch your creativity a bit further. I do realise that this is one of those images that everyone has to do at some stage.
