First Human Model

Hello, this is my first post. I am fairly new to Blender (started about the end of the summer). Recently I decided to try to make a human model (sort of anime-like). Here’s what I have so far:

I’m reading many of the posts in this forum to learn more about character/head modeling. I would really appreciate some comments/critiques/advice about ANYTHING! Thanks!

Wow, no responses. I know it is not a very good model, but I’m trying to get better! C&C or links to places that I could learn from?

Work on the amor look too thin. ( how couls she run with that thing on?)

I think if this your first model, you did a hell of a job. Of course it looks like 1980, but it is a good start. I’ve read in the CGTALK forums that even the best gets frustrated and that is the point that you have to keep working on your model no matter what. It is the best learning experience. I myself (after reading a lot from books and on the internet) am in the proces of redoing all of my models, including my very first wip head.

So you ask for links? Go knock your self out (they are not Blender specific per se, but very helpful though):

Wow, thanks, sorry it took me so long to reply, schools getting very busy and we’ll have finals very soon.

Anyway, I have not had much time to work on this model, I did some stuff with the face (and hair):

I think I will try the hair/fur phython script that I found the other day. About face textures, how should I go about doing that? I know nothing about UV texturing and that stuff, all I did for this texture was take a photo and use some skin from that as the image texture. Thanks!

Try Tattoo It allows u to paint directly onto a mesh. u have to export ur object as a .obj. I suggest u read in the docs and forum on the tattto site

wow thanks headcheese this program is amazing wonder why it hasnt been posted before :-?

Fudge

It has… by me :stuck_out_tongue:

can you poste face wire, to tell you what are wrong.

For texturing the face, I recomend that you take a look at the video tutorials at www.blender3d.org. There the UV unwrapping method is shown. Also check out this site:

Thanks, I need to learn UV mapping bad!

Well, here’s the mesh, I did not realize how bad it was until you asked for it. :expressionless: :expressionless: :expressionless:

It’s so wierd looking because I chooped of the back of it for ease in modeling and that’s what the big “cut” in the left side of her head is (I started this when I was even more of a newbie than I am now).

This one is so bad, I think I’ll start over with a new model.

The material on the skirt looks very satin-like, what settings did you use on that?

ok I see your problem.
Look after that http://maxrovat.sns.hu/subdiv/vig_mesh.jpg

You see the organization of edge loops ? Around eyes, lips, lips/nose
These edges loops permit face modeling corresponding to muscle position reality… It’s very important to make an realistic model…

Here you see your topology make flat face, and realy not realistic…
Hmm I thinks you must to make the tutorial of joan before trying to make an human head
http://mr2k.3dvf.net go to tutorial section

Good luke

This a very simple and understandable box modelling tutorial.:
