Fixing meshes

Hi, i just started to modling things inn blender for 3D printing. Im currently trying to make an camera holder for my car. I modeled it with the Cad sketcher addon. But when i use boolean union and ect. it gets all messed up.

Anyone have an nice fast tutorial how to merge layeres, fix vertices ect? Thanks for help

We are not google.

There are countless videos on YouTube for learning blender basics, modeling, booleans, and I’m going to guess probably prepping blender files for printing as well. So look them up.

Hehe. Understandable. Just thought someone might have a quick tip or fix to remove the lines…

Il go through YT again.

I’d certainly recommend searching the web and learning some more about Blender, but in the case of 3D printing, this geometry is fine (so long as you don’t need to use any modifiers on the mesh prior to printing). Most CAD software produces horrible looking geometry like this, it’s just that only in Blender can you actually see that geometry.
As far as 3D printing is concerned, the only thing that is really necessary is that the model is manifold (fully enclosed with no holes into the inside of the mesh).

The line is not removed.
If there is no problem with modeling, this will not interfere with the 3D printer.

Check it out using the 3D Print Toolbox among blender Addons.

As @oo_1942 mentioned…

why do you think you have to “fix” anything… or in other words: Where does this idea came from ?

There would even be different recommendations if this is to be used as a game asset or for some VFX… it alway depends on the context… (or on same too fast given advice)

I would recommend looking through @BlenderBob YouTube…

There are some really good examples from him!

Thanks for all the replies and tips! I installed the 3D print add-on and found that ‘Non-manifold’ and ‘Intersect Faces’ were the most important aspects for 3D printing. So, I’ll try to fix at least those.

@Okidoki I don’t know :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe I’m just a perfectionist. I’m a chemical engineer so in my work everything has to be perfect.

Ahhh… but generally in 3D: if it looks good then it is good :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
