Flame Trails Inexplicably Combine & Explode

My goal is for an emitter to emit a bunch of particles, each of which has a trail of flames (flames that look like flames, rather than being straight glowing lines). In my current attempt, things start out semi-decent (although the flames could still look more flame-like) but around frame 11, the flames seem to combine and cause a massive explosion.DomainProblem.blend (999.4 KB)

I’m not sure what’s causing the problem, or what settings I should be using to give my particles decent-looking flame trails. Thanks!

It seems setting Initial Velocity - Source to 1 for the Flow object was what I needed to do to get flame-like flames. I’ve got a satisfactory-looking effect now, though I’m still curious what was causing the explosion.
