Flipped Faces???

I was trying to create a human head without sculpting… (I’m not confident with it :spin:) And i was making progress. So I decided to take a glimpse and smoothed the model, but the shading came all dodgy. Then I undid the smoothing and extruded the all the face. Some of the faces extruded outwards while others went inside the head. Does anyone know why this happens and how to counter it?


Remove any internal faces
Remove any doubles (select all vertices and W / remove doubles)
Recalculate face normals (select all faces and Ctrl+N)
Flip and selected faces with W / Flip Normals
