A quick artwork I made from random assets while chilling with a friend in a Discord call. I streamed the process and it took about 90 minutes in Blender plus another 90 in Photoshop
The light beam is a 3D volumetric effect made with a shader
Rendered in Cycles
Sketchfab car photoscans from Renafox and worstimever
Yeahhhh it doesn’t make a ton of sense but since I planned nothing I just went with the flow and this looked kinda cool. Maybe the beam isn’t being deliberately aimed at the car and it just happens to have been hit? Who knows! But anyway, I’m glad you like it!
I made an emissive volume shader on a stretched cube using a gradient radiating out from the center and two layers of voronoi set to distance from edge and clamped to make thin wispy curtains of light. The voronoi is also distorted by noise textures.
It’s actually a fairly simple shader, but with some photoshop enhancement it looks great! In addition to the color grading I added the glowing particles and more detail using grunge textures and another swirly texture I overlayed to add some more detail to the edges. I also noticed the wispy layers of light from the voronoi had some harsh ugly intersection points with the car, so I painted those out by hand
You’re welcome! Feel free to ping me if you make something cool, or if you’re having trouble getting the shader to work. It’s not super optimized or quite as user friendly as I would have liked cause it’s barely past the raw chaos of the creation phase, but you can definitely make some cool stuff with it
