flock of animals

hello.
i have an animal that i want to duplicate like a flock. then the flock starts moving on a plane and stops in front of a door. the door opens and they (about 30) goes through the door-opening. thats it…
i have looked at particle emitters such as boids and newtonians but it seems to go nuts. i cant control the movement of the flock.

does anyone have any good recipies or ideas?

help would very much be appreciated.

thanks

Blender people? But it certainly would be broken for the 2.5x

does blender people work for blender 2.49b? i would be very happy if there was some other way in blender itself…

Blender people is dead, unless you want to revive it.

The only approach I can think of, using particles, would be the harmonic field. You can transfer particles from one mesh shape to another in a flocking like effect. But constraining them to a ground plane becomes the task.

Here is an example file of a single particle traveling along a path, then switching to another path. Perhaps you can get some use out of such a setup? The first path could be the travel to the door and the second path could be entering?
