Flow: the Movie

Can anyone share some more info about it ? It’s a movie made with Blender by Gints Zilbalodis @gintszilbalodis ?

Like any WIP shots, behind the scenes tidbits etc.

Saw it last weekend.

I’m also curious to see how it was made.

It’s really beautiful and captivating! I can’t find where you can rent it either sadly, but on their site you can find your closest theatre: https://flowthemovie.com/buy-tickets

Yesterday Flow won the Golden Globe for its category! According to this article, it’s the first time it happens to a production made with Blender.

I would like to see it online, and I don’t mind at all if I have to buy it in order to do so. Just tell me where.

Looks like it’s available for rental on Apple TV.

I learned of it from 80lvl… I had no idea it was even a thing, still have yet to watch it but the clips I have seen are amazing. A friend of mine has seen it and she quotes “Makes me cry harder than any big production movie”…

I do have Amazon Prime so I can watch it there it looks like.

(Edit) Went to website and located at least 3 nearby theaters playing it, might consider taking the wife and kid to see it…

On the website of Blender there is an interesting interview with the director.

I had the pleasure of finally watching it today and it was fantastic. I really loved the animations and the personality of the animals, and the overall narrative pace and setting were perfect for me. Quiet, meditative, evoking a greater, mysterious world. I hope it wins the Oscars.

He deserves a better dinner than that…

Jokes apart, congratulations for the result.
From the article it’s clear that it should be a really tough experience.
I hadn’t got the opportunity to see the movie but I’d like to…I hope soon as possible.

Do you know if someone of that team is registered here?

No idea on this forum, but I saw that Gints Zilbalodis is posting on X a lot of details on the making of Flow: https://x.com/gintszilbalodis

(I don’t use that website anymore but I had to open it to see some details after watching the movie yesterday).

Fun fact: when watching the movie, I was thinking that the way they implemented the water looked familiar to me. In fact, it was. Some years ago, I had seen the experiments that Mārtiņš Upītis was working on for water. I did not know that he was working on Flow and they were meant for it! Apparently, now they have been released as the add-on Physical Open Waters.

One could think that he now is committed to make tons of tutorials available, after launching such a bold sentence around the world!

Massive huge congratulations to Gintz Zilbadalodis and all involved. It is an incredible achievement.

Great art is simply great art regardless of the tools and methods used. For Blender though and for open source in general and for the freedom to dream and to make for creatives and artists worldwide this has to be a game changer.

In a time of such uncertainty and so much darkness this feels like a bright light of hope. A better way forward. Community togetherness and shared humanity moves mountains. And beautifully animated animals are pretty cool too.

Wonderful news. The world needs more Ton’s.

Tonight I might buy a bottle of wine !

Take care all. To all who have been committed to supporting and working with Blender all these years. Let’s enjoy this moment. x
