i would like to see the petals in more detail and tweak the material on the flower.

I like it very much. I would look almost like one of these old very accurate botanical illustration if not for the shininess on the petals. But I agree, some flowers do have shiny petals (eg. goldilock, or am I mixed up with bears %| here?)

looks good, but try doing a subdivide smooth on the pedals and then turn on subdivide surfaces, probably level two would do.
