This is a portal animation I made that is based off of Nion’s portal tutorial:

This was my first time touching nodes in any work I have done with Blender, and I say that I did fairy well. I followed most of what Nion did in his tutorial, but I cut out the portal movement with the empty that he had done as well as a few other things. I replaced the normal mesh with the fluid, that had gravity set in the Y direction. Also, he had his portal be shadeless, while I did not so that you could see the ripple effect in the water.
There are a couple of issues, such as the camera movement is too jerky and part of the ball disappears at one frame when it is going through the portal. The render time was fairly long, because I have a relatively old laptop to do everything on, and because of the grass particles I added so the ground didn’t look so bland (they aren’t even very good).
I plan to add a glow to the portal and make and possibly make a short film using the concept, but I have school starting soon so I don’t know if I will get around to doing it. Any suggestions on how I can improve this are welcome!
