Fluid sim - color particles by velocity

I want to use Blender to prove an engineering concept in fluid dynamics. There is open-source CFD software for precision, but I just want to show a flow within the flow. Simply stated, a round container with a hole in side near the bottom. I want to show that the fluid flow takes on a stream within the volume. Can I access the particles or write a Python script assigning a color based upon flow or vector as compared with the other particles in the domain?

Thanks,

Rob

Here is a link to what I would like to achieve visually with Blender’s fluid sim:

You know I’m not 100% sure, but I think if you tell it to cache the velocity with the final data… you might be able to use that… Not sure though, I’m in class right now and can’t test it out for you.

No, I am still looking for more references to the fluid sim methods.
