The blender fluid simulator is aging quite severely and hasn’t received a major update in a long time, meanwhile the smoke simulator has received multiple new features such as adaptive domains, subframes and surface emission etc.
So why hasn’t the fluid simulator had any upgrades especially with other open source fluid simulations like mantaray or this available??
It’s been worked upon on, current lib is El’Beem made by Nils Thuerey, and it seems it’s 10 years old now ^^
anyway same guy, Nils is also behind Mantaflow (sic. I think that is what you OP means when you say mantaray)
If I remember correctly and got it right, Nils was actually the one that integrated El beem into Blender in the first place.
so why hasn’t it?
Probably because it’s lots and lots and lots of code intensive work to do? Also, I think a deep understanding of the integrated library is needed almost more than and understanding of blenders inner workings.
There’s been threads about this from time to time.
and some folks are actually doing builds with mantaflow and blender.
