Fluids smoke viewport display settings-Thickness not working properly in 2.81-2.82

I often change the viewport display settings (openGL solid viewports) for a fluid smoke container(viewport settings) Thickness to maybe around10 in value…and in 2.79.3 it looks as it should in my opinion, with proper lighting and a clear volume.

In 2.81 an 2.82 …when raising above 2 for thickness in viewport display settings, it just becomes dark and quite flat without any sense of volume at all.

Anyone care to take a look, it sort of destroys the fun of checking out the fluids in openGL solid mode.
