Unfortunatley about 3 quarters of the way in, i come accross a huge pronlem when it comes to using the python script to generate leaves.
Instead of making many leaves to attach to the generated brances, the script instead moves the one large leaf i made to the side, and morpths the branches towards it. It iks very frustrating becaue as far as i can tell, Im following the tutorial exactly.
By parenting the leaf to tre tree curve, I managed to make the leaves appear on the tree.
However, in doing so, when the leaves are generated, the large “Master” leaf disappears, and the smaller “generated” ones just dont render.
@Tecase
still working thourgh the tutorial which i find interesting cause i would like to do a christmass tree
but not certain if i can use this script to do it and get a tree with less than 50 000 vertices ! LOL
well i’m only at the beginning of the tut for this and hope to complete it today or tomorrow and see if it works ok
i just found the script yesterday and never really use it before so i need to first study see the tut on this script
then come back to the blenderguru tutorial
and it looks like a verry interesting tool and hope someone can port this to 2.5 soon !
RickyBlender, a tip, to get many vertices with minimal render hit. In blender 2.5 select ‘Instances’ in the render settings and use particle objects for the leaves/pine needles. You can have millions, even tens/hundreds of millions of faces with minimal impact on render time.
do you have an example of this technic cause right now with the script it is alrady generating over 250 000 vertices just for the trunk with some branches + twigs wihtout leaves
so it is super big and PC is slowing down quit !
would be nice to be able to get at least the leaves with particules so it is faster to render and may be to play with in edit mode too!
Not using the script but a rough tree with 100,000 leaf particles. Selecting ‘instances’ reduces render time from 31.8 to 6.8 secs. Increasing the particles to 500,000 leaves increased render time to 29.2 secs. This is with no children particles which would bulk out the tree even more.
would be nice i f you could uplaod the file here - you could reduce the size of particules to 1 then it can be changed
(to make the file small)
but right now i think he is working in 2.49 cause the script is not in 2.5 but that’s ok
anyway with particules right now i prefer to work in 2.5
would also help the other fellow here for the leaves part
mind you in the tut for this script curve to tree he uses a real leave mesh but in the blenderguru tut he uses a plane with alpha of a leaf so i guess it does not mattter which way you make the leaf as long as it is the object in particule system
tell us where you have the problem
i ’ v been able to control the tree twigs production and it’s possible to reduce it by skringking the sphere size
and now working ok for me right now
tomorrow i’ll try to add the leaves
but seems that are more then one way to do it
so for now follow the blenderguru tut
3 ways for leaves
1 - as per blenderguru tut with plane + alpha leaf UV
2 - as per the curve to tree script with a real leaf mes
3 -and later may be try with a particules system in 2.5 !
also can you upload your file before generating the twigs if possible
