Food in Blender (Updated Regularly With New Foods)

Well, I’m not really sure what section of the forum to post this in, but if it’s not in the right spot, I trust that a moderator will move it in no time.

I hope to update this thread regularly with new finished food products made entirely in blender. Since food seems to be somewhat of a taboo in Blender (aside from the numerous bread renders that people posted here on BlenderArtists after watching Blender Guru’s tutorial), I’m hoping to add to the food projects by creating several food items that I’ll show here.

I’m planning on selling most of the on TurboSquid for low prices, but will most likely upload a couple to Blendswap instead, and maybe even do a tutorial or two, if the interest is high enough.

Anyway, here’s the first of those products: saltine crackers.

Critiques are always welcome, of course.

Here’s a normal shot of them:

As well as a shot from beneath to better illustrate the SSS (only a single light was used to render these images):

Next thing you will need to do is a realistic fully 3d spaghetti with also the sauce  like this one:

i think you can easily sell that for 20/40 $, if will be like the photo.

About the crackers: i think they are well detailed, but probably you could have been much more efficient in term of file dimensions/ polygons.

Heh; I’ll get right on that :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah; I was wondering about that, actually. I was intending them to be for close up shots (or at least, relatively close up shots), but they are kind of high-detail for anything else… I’ll probably update the file soon with 3 high-poly/high-resolution crackers, and 3 low-poly/low-resolution crackers.

Here’s another food item; popcorn kernels! I won’t actually be updating this thread with new projects as frequently as this; I just don’t have much to do today, so I might as well add to it

Here’s the final render of the kernels scattered across a table surface:

A render of the kernels close up:

…And a render from beneath to show the translucency:

A preview of tomorrow’s food

And here is another render of the pizza:

Though it is well done, I can not say that it is the maximum of gluttony, at least for an Italian.
Mine is not at all well done, but you can get the idea of a real pizza.

Yours looks great, but I’m wondering if the reason mine doesn’t look as good to you is because it’s a cheap frozen pizza from a convenience store in America? I only ask if that may be the case since the two pizzas look very different. If not, do you have any more specific critiques?

This is kind of a fun to watch what your doing here, food seems to be a real challenge in modeling / texturing… cook me up a nice medium rare steak will you please

Just because you chose to make the “cheap frozen pizza” doesn’t make it any worse. I love the textures on the pepperoni and the cheese, very well done! I’ll be keeping an eye on this for sure

Your model is fine, it is probably very similar to such cheap thing, bad cheese and all, my only complain is that you call it ‘pizza’, like is discouraging Zach25 calling ‘pepperoni’ what actually is ‘salamino’.

paolo

Glad you all like the food so far!

I’ve been attempting to put this steak together recently, but I don’t think it’s there yet. I’m not 100% sure what exactly is off about it (I think I’ve been staring at it for too long), either. I think it has something to do with the color, but I don’t know. Any critiques?

The fat is really well done (steak joke not intended  ). My opinion is that a bit of glistening oiliness would help bring it to life.

the steak looks more like a pork chop, but the shape seems wrong. or it could be a chicken fillet? no. it is definitely pork.

The reflections/bump in the lower part makes it seems frozen…

These look pretty good! Keep it up!

Thanks, everyone!

Barn Owl, I was wondering if it would; I’ve been having a bit of difficulty in trying to get the reflections to look right, though, so I’ll keep working on that

Small Troll, I thought it looked like a pork chop, too, which is weird, because the packaging says it was a steak O.o I took photos of it right before I ate it, and even while I was taking the photos I thought it looked like a pork chop. Weird. Maybe I should just call it a pork chop…

mik, yeah, they sort of do. Maybe if I add a sheen over the entire steak it might make it look a little warmer? I’ll try it out.

EDIT

Here’s an update. I’ve added a bit more sheen to the top of the meat, and have now decided to call it a pork chop instead :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a hastily-thrown-together turntable.

Yea… definitely looks more like a pork chop

how did you built those? did you projection painted it on vertecies/texture?

cerfribar, I took photos of a real piece of meat from multiple angles, UV Mapped the pork chop object to the images, then used the clone tool in Texture Paint mode to clean up the texture seams.
