I’ve wanted to do a thread like this for a long time.
I often see threads in which people say they have no ideas, want to do a project, but don’t have any inspiration.
People have said they like my ideas for having an inspiration (take a long walk, keep a dream journal next to bed, etc)
But I think watching a GREAT film is just as good.
So this is a thread to post a link to a film that has really inspired you. Hopefully, this thread will be a nice showcase of TRULY GREAT films only, and no overhyped crap (which is all that seems to come out anymore.)
For my entry, I give you my FAVORITE FILM OF ALL TIME.
The film is called, “Brainstorm.”
Never heard of it? I’m in no way surprised. I’ve searched the net for years to find a watchable copy, saw it for the first time when I was a teen.
Released in 1983, “Brainstorm” stars CHRISTOPHER WALKEN (as the most sexy-cool-dork mad scientist I’ve ever come across!), NATALIE WOOD (this is her final film, she died making this. That’s probably why it was released and then buried…), and LOUISE FLETCHER (you’ll call me weird, but I would have had a hard time if I were The Walken choosing between Fletcher, his nerdy genius work-mate, and the gorgeous Natalie Wood, his wife…)
After seeing “Brainstorm,” you probably won’t have trouble being inspired again. This film has it all, science, brilliant and gorgeous music, romance, sex, GREAT dialogue, ethics, the evils of capitalism, the filth of the military mind, even some pretty metaphysics rendered in cool early 80s effects.

Hmm. I guess if I were to invent a silly game for this thread it would probably cause a lot more people to involve themselves, huh?
At any rate, as for inspiration, I saw this tonight. I tend to watch a lot of these sorts of NOVA-type shows about local astronomy, doing a little light research for my space opera…
But this is a good one, and I wanted to put it in so I would know where to find it if I need to refer back later. There’s a lot of decent animation in here (at this point, I often watch these shows and think “I can name 10 Blenderheads off the top of my head that could do a sequence at least this well…”) and there’s plenty of “lakes of glowing ambrosia and mysteries of the Solar System” stuff going on. It’s worth a watch, especially if you’re a science geek. And it certainly is good grist for inspiration!

Hey, Arman, thanks for the link. I like that page. You have some great ideas on there. My favorite: read history books. That’s a great one. You’re right that everything in human nature can be found in history books, and much better reading than some might imagine. Great stories, and an endless source for creative writing. Many ancient historians even had their own very interesting use of language and turn of phrase, rather more poetical than modern English (but the grass IS always greener…)
