For or Against War

Plain and simple. No discussion. Just votes. Because I want to see how it compares with the medias polling.

jonnierod. This site is hardly a "representative"sample. Plus, I think the premise is misleading.

For example, I support military conflict to remove Saddam from power but I am not FOR war. There is a difference.

It’s not meant to be a scientific study. Just imagine you’re a citizen of BlenderNation and we’re deciding whether to help the US or not. How would you vote?

And as you said, you’re for using force to remove Saddam… that’s what Gulf War II is about. So I would see that as a “for” vote.

Well… one of the problems here is that the media has never polled “Blendernation”, so there is no way to compare. Also, I don’t believe there have been (or could be) any poll covering the whole world. Even if you tried to compare to polls in the US, it would be completely different… there are many people here, if not a majority, who are not Americans. Finally, I’d imagine the average age of Blendernation is fairly low. (I think there have been polls before, showing a majority in their 20’s, even though there is some representation from a broad range of ages… even 10 and 11 year olds like Cube and Valar :P) Most younger Americans probably don’t agree with the war, because most people don’t really pay attention until some time later in life. (And I don’t want anyone under 40 coming up and saying “I PAY ATTENTION!!”, I happen to be 24 myself… but I’ve been preaching my politics for nearly 10 years now, hehe… started, pretty much, back at 14 when I started getting into dail-up BBS’s… by the time I was in Guam at 15, I was active on about 10 or so, and on one I got more messages than the SysOP, which is very rare).

Well, that’s kind of the idea of this poll. I realize that. I wouldn’t be posting this if I already knew the numbers. I wanted to see how BlenderNation compares. It seems so far that BlenderNation follows world opinion more than American opinion. That’s what I wanted to know.

Well… like I said, you could not poll the world (and no one has)… so how can you say it conforms to “world opinion”?

For or against? Those are hardly accurate. You cannot just say ‘I am in favour’ or ‘I am against’.

Unless you are President

This isn’t a question that can have a simple “for” or “against” answer. As in almost every scenario, the dynamics of the situation are far more complex and obscure.

As it always says on slashdot…

Don’t complain about lack of options. You’ve got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.

This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you’re using these numbers to do anything important, you’re insane.

Because people have polled individual nations, and the general world opinion, everywhere but America, is strongly against the war. As high as 80% in Japan. Or where you under the impression that the US had the world’s general backing?

Well, in the real world, you have to make decisions sometimes even when all the evidence isn’t in yet. Yes the dynamics are complex, but there is still a simple choice… invade or do not invade. There is no inbetween. Do you want me to post choices like, invade half-way? The question is meant to say, if the choice were yours, if you were the president, would you use force or not, at the present time with what you know now, to disarm Saddam Hussein.

And now I’ve got to go decide if I’ll eat a ham sandwich or a turkey one, but I’ll probably starve to death first because it’s a really complex dynamic situation…
