Please forgive me, but this doesn’t give the feeling of a forest. Just 8 trees grouped, maybe the exiting edge of a forest. (Just taking forest out of the title would do me here, hehe). Seems I can’t get a sense of size either, with the oversized thorns and gnarly wood these could be plants almost. The shadows show that there’s no canopy above.
Plus side is that texture on the bark, no stretching anywhere and very nicely done.
Hm, I can’t understand you. This is not a real forest, this is the Forest of Hopeless. It’s an allegoric picture. Sometimes the hopeless is not hopeless. Some people think, he/she are in “forest of hopeless”, but there is only 6-7 trees. And there is hope, but he/she can’t see.
I agree with endi. Since it’s a imaginary forest comparisms to real forests and size-proportions do not matter at all. This picture got it’s own mood and doesn’t really look rendered, but more like painted, which isn’t a too easy job. On the other hand one might ask: ‘Why didn’t he paint it then?’ Actually i think some elements are drawn … like the blood drops. I’d like to know which.
Overall i must say, that the picture doesn’t suit me too much, which might be just because it creates an ‘uncomfortable’ mood … in other words does what the creator intended to - regarding to the topic.
It’s still a good work though,

pretty cool, frotn layer could use a little edge blurring, but its a very nice render. oh, and you might want to sort out the title, it should be “The forest of hopelessness”
I love the way you modelled the trees.
the branch in the front looks a bit off… but then again, goes with the feather that look a bit off too so, it’s a mixture of styles, nothing wrong with it.
the sharpness in the picture is new to you… it looks almost like those running demos from videocard manufacturers realtime rendering… heh.
the trees is the best part, and the bird. I really like that ugly sad old bird.

“I really like that ugly sad old bird.”
Thanks, thanks, thanks! I work for this words…
Nice image. The feathers do seem a bit off, but that is all I can really crit about this.

I wonder, why you not posting your best Blender pictures on this forum? Make the Blender famous!!!
I love the mood, modelling, textures… great pic!!
Whoa! :o
The trees look really cool. Great pic.
This is good… very good!
I love the way the feathers look, and the tree trunks as have been mentioned before are great.
The “claw-bransh” in the foreground does look a little out of place… but I couldn’t say how to change it.
Most of all I admire the way you got the goosebumps in there.
whoa wicked, now I wouldn’t wanna get lost in there ( even it are only eight trees)
great work

Endi, for fear of repeating what I wrote in your thread at CGTalk,
Wow. This is yet another of your works that has shown me things that Blender is capable of that I never thought possible.
