Forging the Sun

Long before the arrival of the new religion, the people of ancient Lithuania told tales of one who forged the Sun. Not a sun god, or heavenly god. An earthly creator - a blacksmith - who with his hammer freed Saulė, throwing it into the sky.

It is written of a certain Teliavelis -
Who perceived that to bring forth light, one would have to smite.
So with his feet set in the firmament, he began to strike, strike the dark mass…
And look, behold!
A roiling celestial furnace, radiating bright streams of plasma, ribbons of electromagnetic heat!
All the while casting glowing embers, which with time condense into holes of black cold.

Thank you sundial!

Though it could have been finished quite a while ago, if life hadn’t kept interrupting my art-making!
