Forum feature requests

First off, I think the forum admins do a great job here, and this site is an invaluable tool for blender users. I have a few feature requests and wondered if anyone else had any either. Also there may be a way to do some of the things of I am requesting, if there is please tell me.

  1. A way to see if there has been a new post on a thread that you started, or are active in. I know you can click on your username and click latest posts or started threads, but there is no way to see (quickly and without scrolling to the last post) if there is new action. Sometimes I am involved in 3-4 threads and sort of lose track of what I’m doing.

  2. Somehow flag users who start threads but then never reply to the replies. I think many people do this ‘honestly’ – figure out their issue in the meantime, and abandon the thread. But there are possibly a few trolls out there.

  3. Garner some more people for the weekend challenges. The end of submission times, and the voting times are subject to change, the voting method could be improved. And some small 'reward for the winner, someone mentioned either an automatic thread in Finished Projects, or an automatic inclusion in the header images. I think that would get people interested.

Any other ideas?.. And again, thanks to the admins and site devs. This is a first class forum.

At top of forum Quick Links / Subscribed Threads. Check in your user settings that you are set to subscribe to threads you’ve posted in.

Thank you richard, this sounds like exactly what I want, but I’m a little slow figuring it out. In my user settings, I click on View All subscribed threads, and then Edit Folders, and then I come to a screen with 3 textfields for ‘Add new folders’, but I’m not seeing a checkbox or similar to ‘subscribe to threads you’ve posted in’

That icon legend is exactly what I want though. Thanks for your time.

Settings / General Settings / Messaging & Notifications. Set the choice for your Default Thread Subscription Mode from the dropdown option.
Then use Quick Links / Subscribed Threads to view them

Hmm, almost there. Set my subscription mode to - through control panel only, I don’t want an email every time there’s a new post. But it just leads me back to the edit folders textfields. It’s not that big of a deal. Maybe it’s not retroactive, so new threads I’m a part of will be listed in subscribed threads in the future. Not sure.

Suggestions, not requests.

  1. Pretty much all finished projects threads have a thumbnail image now, which is pretty decent resolution too (and even though the image is displayed at a small size, all thumbnails are loaded in full res, which you can see by opening the image in a new tab).

I’d like to be able to view all of these as a slideshow/gallery so I can quickly decide which one I want to comment on. This will save people having to open each thread at a time, and should increase the quantity of quality comments.

  1. Front page news feed like the old times.

    1. Being able to view previous feature row entries.

    2. More presence for weekend challenges. Annual/Biannual Blenderguru style challenges.

Those are good. And I mean requests/suggestions in the most respectful tone. I run a web site/service myself (I won’t plug it here) but I make my (little) money through ad clicks, 3-10 cents a time. I presume they do to. I think better contests would add some more excitement and generate more click throughs. But as far as support goes, this place rules.

I would like to see a “report this post” link in the forums so the trollish post can be reported to the moderator and removed. A single Bad member Can spoil a thread as easily as 123.

That’s always been there - the triangle with an exclamation mark at the bottom left of each post is the report post button.

Thanks for that info. I hadn’t noticed that icon until you pointed it out. I usually browse the forums without logging in only logging in if I want to reply to or start a thread. That icon is only visible if you are logged in.

This is an automated message - since the last reply was more than 3 months old, I auto-marked it as the solution. If you still need help, just post a new reply.
