I’m working on a fountain machine and I want to texture it but I can’t figure out how to get the stupid UV thing to work… are there any GOOD tutorials that are straight-forward that show how texture? any tutorial that I’ve watched so far does not help me. it’s so frustrating when it never works right!
I have a pepsi image i’m trying to get on the top and I want to put different pop logos one the dispensers and a stainless look material/texture on the metal parts but I can’t get anything to do what I want.
Here’s a couple wireframes… but it’s not just this model, it’s almost ANYTHING I want to model, I try UV unwrapping and lining the image up and sometimes I can get the images to show up and sometimes nothing works!
I suggest you just separate the part of the machine that you’re going to texture. You said you’re going to put a Pepsi sign on the the top. Separate that portion of the mesh. The tricky thing about texturing a machine is actually getting the UV’s to line up in favor of the textures you have. Or you can try UV projection. Watch this:
thanks for the video… it helped some, but I found out the reason why it wasn’t showing up was because it was being displayed on the back side instead. I flipped the normals and then it comes up on the front, but it’s backwards, like it’s a mirror image of it. Also for some reason part of the other mesh is invisible in texture mode when i’m on that mesh.
edit: the part that is showing up as invisible in the pic, I can’t see anytime when I’m in texture mode even with other parts selected or nothing, but when I’m in solid mode, everything is still in place.
edit 2: I managed to figure out the mirror part by clicking space > UV > mirror, but the hidden stuff is still hiding
I have another problem, sometimes when I have the UV editor up, and I have an image on the grid, and with whatever i have unwrapped is laying over the image, and I go to scale or move the unwrapped mesh around, the image just disappears off the screen! and then I click on image and put it back on, then try to edit it again, it just disappears again!
it didn’t happen with the pepsi logo but it is with the logos for the dispenser cube things…
like say on the left side of my other image, if I were to try to move it, the image behind it would just go away!
Another thing, I also have problems sometimes when I separate objects to add textures, it screws up things with subsurf and gives it rounded edges and the textures don’t look right
When you’re in textured mode, the images mapped to faces that’s facing the other way will not show up. Enter edit mode, select all faces, then press ctrl+N.
If everything disappears, select all faces again, press ctrl+W, choose “invert faces”, or is it “switch faces”…
