"fractal" node equivalent

Is there a material node that has a sort of “random” function? I have read some tutorials for other softwares where people used a “fractal” node to add randomness to a material. I couldn’t find anything in the manual about it, so I figured I would ask.


Perhaps you could try out http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Resources/PyNode_Cookbook/Color#Color_randomizer ? Feel free to modify it as needed.

<edit>Alternative way would be to use the noise texture or cloud with low enough size. Latter option is better for animation as the results are consistent unlike in real noise where no seed value is set. The PyNode could easily be tweaked to use certain seed value to overcome this issue.</edit>
