Fred walking

hi there,
i’m new to the blender animation system and wanted to make a simple walk cycle to begin with. my character is very, very basic, just don’t look at that :stuck_out_tongue:
nothing special: vimeo link
C&C ^^

The pace Fred is walking at is good. Fred has bent legs, but the bend angle never changes – no knees. In order to lift the “feet” off the ground, some other part of the body will have to lift. Possibly the hips. Fred’s hips aren’t rotating to lift the feet. The rocking of the torso fits the walk, but the head should bob up and down a little, too, to show weight. But first you’ll have to find a way to lift the feet.

To discover problems, put Fred on a surface and light it with something that shows shadows.

if you look close you see his legs bend a bit  but you’re right, not enough.
i’ll upload a new one tomorrow, i’ve got exams so
thx, great help =)

i like it, very sketchy and simple but artistic in its stylization! cool

damn, tomorrow took long xD sorry for that one.

so… i totally gave up on the character but something inside me said that i should make an animation short for this guy :stuck_out_tongue: i threw him away and re-modelled and rigged him.
fully new walk cycle (vimeo)
Adding a plane with shadows takes waaay too long on my crappy pc, sorry =\

Great job. Looks way better now with the second version. The first version looked odd. Are you going to add arms or leave him without?

thx =) damn you’re fast :stuck_out_tongue:
i’ll leave him without. I wanna start really basic for my first animation
Maybe i’ll add arms in the future, after this project…

I try. ;). Did you follow a tutorial for the walkcycle? I’ve never been able to get a walkcycle to look real, they always look robotic.

lol, no i didn’t actually i don’t like people telling me what to do xP
but a tut can always be a great help
the cycle is simpler then you think…

on every 10 frames, with a little tweaking ofcourse

Very nice. Love the simpleness could do a movie just like that. In animation, the hands offer A LOT of the challenge to animate. What you did is simple for you probably. If you are new it may have taken you a day or two but otherwise(say you have school) it’ll take longer. So let’s say you took 5 hours to do it. Than it’d take you 7 hours to do it with hands.
