Here’s something I made for my own use, but was just too useful to not share.
I’m not sure about the legality of this, but DAZ studio and genesis 8 are both available for free, and i’m putting this up for free so it shouldn’t matter. If it becomes a problem I will take this down immediately without a fuss.
Here is Genesis 8 with all standard joint corrective morphs PLUS all of the default body shapes! I even added a few of my own (fixes fully bent elbows and knees.) Underwear and a free run animation from Mixamo included!
All bones renamed to Blender’s naming convention so that symmetry works!
I ported this from DAZ Studio to Blender using Thomas Larsson’s DAZ importer. It came with all of the standard joint corrective morphs but none of the other shapes (fat, thin, stocky, etc.) so I had to manually export and import them as shape keys to the base mesh.
I also changed it from A-pose to T-pose because T-pose works much better with Mixamo and is, in general the best way to go (Idk why the genesis models are all A-pose.) I found a way to do it and preserve the shape keys, but I had to manually apply the T pose to every single one)
I also use D.Master’s Auto Shape enhancer to fix fully bent elbows/knees, but since I paid for it AND it doesn’t export easily to Blender, I had to make my own using his work as visual reference. Not quite as good as the paid for ones, but close!
Yeah I’ve only came across Thomas’s script through another tutorial. I tried using the other buttons on the import tool, but none of them seemed to import the shapes, just the corrective morphs. I didn’t think to look for a manual.
Sorry, im pretty new to actually sharing any of my work. I’m not a programmer, i’m a designer and I never really get into the details of how the plugins work. I had read a little about retarget addons, but it was a bit too much for me, and with my personal history of getting things like that to work I decided just doing it manually would take less time.
The script did all the work with the JCMs, and there were only 68 shapes to export. I had to manually export each shape since I rarely use DAZ studio (and don’t like its interface.) I was able to import into blender and making them into shape keys all at once. But if I need to do this again, I now know there’s a better way and will read the manual properly.
I’ll delete this thread tomorrow. I apologize for any offense I may have caused.
I have no idea about legality of things (and it does seem the Gumroad post is unavailable), but this is super cool. I use Genesis figures as base meshes all the time, and this is such a cool idea to save all that fiddling-and-exporting time for each project. Nice work!
Even if it only benefits you and those you share with directly, still seems like a great idea and a big time-saver!
