freelance work

this is my second freelance job and i want to get some crits on it. before i post a pic of the actual thing, im going to get the guys permission, just in case.

Basically, it is a tube with a pressure sensor on the end of it. i believe it is used in high pressure areas such as oil mining or whatever. here are some pics of what i have finished so far:

close-up of circuits:

its still a wip and all, and will still be very much improved upon, but give me crits on what i have so far. i want it to be the best it can be

The first thing I noticed is that there’s LOTS of circuits missing on the chip.

The second thing was that it has two shadows, turn of ray-shadow for one of the lamps.

ah just a note, most times you are NOT allowed to show even a sketch until the client tells you that you can do so.

claas

ok, he said it was ok. here is an update:

well, there are a lot on the other side too. from looking at the reference picture i have ,though, my circuit board does look a little barren compared to it.

ok, so, commence the serious critiqing!

Your circuit board looks more or less OK. I’d say it’s missing other kinds of components though (mainly capacitors). Do you have an image of the real circuit board that will go in there or just some other image?

How is the pressure sensor being held at the mouth of the tube? The way you currently have it, it looks like it can just slide into the tube. Also is the tube supposed to be so thick?

Also with the circuit board you have surface mounted devices (smd) but dont have tracks orginating from most of the leads of the smds. Also the smd are soldered to the circuit board, so each lead needs a little blob of solder.

I don’t know anything about circuitry so it looks great to me  I’ve spent most of my Blender time looking at characters and animations so it’s refreshing to see something clean, “simple” and “purely commercial”.

Is this a cutaway or will the real object be half a cylinder as you’ve modelled it (presumably with a second half to complete it)? If it’s a cutaway, I’d like to see either some texture or maybe contrasting colour (red?) on the cut faces to indicate this.

Of course, at the end of the day there’s only one critique that matters - your client’s!

i have about a month to finish this, so ill fix all the fine, fine details later. (but thanks though, i hadn’t really thought of fixing that at all)

this is a cross section of it, the red idea sounds good, ill try it, thanks.

the whole thing is fairly small, maybe about the width of 4 pennies. the tube isn’t done yet, i need to work on it a lot more.
EDIT: actually, its about more like 2.5-3 pennies or so

im assuming all the other components are on the other side of the circuitboard. i have a picture of the real thing (both sides, bit im only doing one side). this is pretty much exactly how the ‘top’ of the circuitboard looks in the pictures.

^update. that is pretty much how the thing looks on the inside. still have to connect the wires to that female socket.

It looks nice. I’d like to see a metal texture on the cut part of the tube like striations or something.

And maybe include the other half of the tube sitting next to it?

im really late posting these, they were finished around last sunday:

the battery texture was made by me in GIMP and UV mapped on there, ill test out the ideas you guys gave me when i get the chance/time.

school work isn’t allowing me to do much as of late, but ill get it done
