Hi,
Very new to Blender - when using soft body simulation, can I freeze the mesh at a certain animation frame to use as a new mesh. Every time I try, the mesh reverts back to the original before the simulation. Thanks for any help.
I got it work by duplicating the mesh at frame 1, advancing the simulation to the desired deformation, then pressing the Apply button on the Softbody modifier for the duplicated mesh.
If I duplicated the mesh after advancing to the point, I get the same thing you did i.e. the undeformed mesh.
Also, if there is an IPO on the original object, you might want to create a new IPO for the duplicated object (or make sure that the “Duplicate with Object / IPO” button is ON in the user prefs / edit methods.

Thanks Mike! I also got it to work with the original mesh without duplicating it by just advancing to the diesired frame and apply the modifier. This is very nice!
