Yeah sure and that’s fine ! I don’t have a smartphone and managed to live without since then ! I’m sure expectations about AI will change and the more I look into it the more skeptical I am for AI to be relevant in some complex situations.
Image generators , well I can’t tell how useful they are. But something like a chatbot, I’ve seen a lot of clever use cases around my peers and I don’t think it’s going anywhere. But that’s not a reason to become fanatic and see AI use cases everywhere.
Yes, but the difference is human involvement. I think AI has been driven by the idea that we need to push people out of technology rather than augmenting and working with us.
Yes I think this is the sales argument that AI tech want us to believe. To a point we’re asking ourselves if it’s still worth learning art or anything basically.
Yes nowadays anyone can prompt an image generator and get something out of it. But I’m sure eventually we’ll get down to the same conclusion: image making is a matter of specialist and AI is just a tool. Just like with programming, I don’t think that an AI would ever be able to write a complex program because there is so much more to it than just code.
Anyway, when I was referring to computers, obviously nowadays it’s easy to see where they stands in our lifes. However I’m not sure it’s how this was seen when they were introduced. I wouldn’t be surprised if people had similar concerns about loosing their jobs, entrusting a machine rather than a human and so on. And I think it’s a bit similar with every tech : some people would want to see it everywhere, some others think we’re doomed. Eventually things settle and we manage to make mostly the best of it.
To address your point more specifically; the difference between 2D/3D is that both 2D and 3D both fundamentally involve a high degree of skill to develop and use. Both 2D and 3D have common ideas;
Yes ! the fundamentals are similar, but not everyone see it that way. I can assure you that people saw a lot of opposition between both. 3D was basically something artificial, soulless that can’t be good. In the eyes of some 2D purist. And it can make sense because in the beginning 3D was kinda ugly indeed.
But nowadays it’s harder to see that opposition since both are creative tool and mixing both lead to even more interesting results.
Also yes a toddler can prompt an AI but if you look back, 3D gives you automatic perspective and rendering without years of study and practice. Yes we know there is more to it now , but again I was giving those examples to put things in perspective. To try to understand how they where perceived back then vs how they are now…
