From max to blender:dds textures

Ok,a friend of mine made a model with max.Then he sended me an archive with the model in both .obj(+mtl) and .3ds.But the textures are in .dds.I think hes making models for games so that probably why he uses .dds.
I know Blender doesnt support .dds.Maybe the svn versions do,but i dont want to download them.
I have a program called Xnview that can convert it to .png to .tga.Should i edit something else in the 3d file to make it load in Blender??
