Fun things about the new forum

Mobile support is awesome! I’m visiting the forum much more since it’s easily readable on phones.
The light theme is pretty nice, too. Reading the forum on a white background is like a whole new experience and I’m looking forward to seeing it even more refined eventually.

Just tried on my mobile device and indeed it is great!

One obscure request - my iPhone decided that the icon for BA should be the discourse icon (I think that’s what it is). It would be cooler to have it be the BA logo.

In case it helps - the TouchArcade site http://toucharcade.com/ works that way.

Good catch - I’ll add the icon to my todo

@Guss I’ve deleted the discobot messages as they were cluttering up this topic. Better use private message to talk to him

the most funny and useless function is, the so-said ‘suggested topics’ are all from me, some of them has been posted too looong time ago, so that I don’t care about them so much currently

the 2nd, I can’t find how to mark whole forum read

the 3rd, but which is said to be a known bug, is I can’t MMB on the top suggested gallery image to open another TAB for the whole post.

The software marks posts you’ve written into in the past as “tracking” and will keep suggesting them as long as you don’t clear your new comments notifications / mark them as read (from a link in the top navigation bar).

Check this out :

Sick of those looong-ass posts with multiple big pictures that make you scroll down and take forever to load ?

Introducing : Tumbnail-slideshow galleries :framed_picture: :framed_picture: :framed_picture:

Thumbnails are now automatically generated within the website and when you click on any thumbnail, it enlarges the image in a slideshow that you can navigate with ⇽ arrow keys ⇾ without leaving the page :

as Pacha would say :

Note : One downside is that the thumbnails are only generated when the image has bigger dimensions than a minimum which is defined in the website’s settings (set by the admin). If it’s smaller than this minimum, the image can still display at a smaller scale but it won’t be clickable nor visible in the slideshow. The only workaround is to resize the image to bigger dimensions prior to upload.

Raw text for this gallery :

![San Agustin\|166x180][1] ![Ramses 2\|288x180][2] ![Monument\|180x180][3] ![Moaï\|288x180][4] ![Bayon temple\|271x180][5]

You can even use tables if you want. Here’s something to take into consideration if you want to do it :

Yeah it was the same for me, so I just hid the entire block.

On the home page there should be an upper button, to take you to a list of all unread topics. That page should have a “Dismiss” button at the upper right.

Bartv is looking for coders to re-code the thing. I’ve offered HTML and CSS which will work, but the Discourse/Ember/Ruby on Rails side of it is not something I’m familiar with.

All attachments display the same and are downloadable whether logged in or not.
Likewise site search works in both states again. Whoop whoop.

@bartv, about my previous post , I’ve talked with the developers of Discourse and asked them if they could change it so that whenever the |widthxheight formatting is used, the thumbnails become clickable and viewable in the slideshow mode, but they responded by saying that although they like the idea, it’s not in their roadmap and won’t be anytime soon.
So here’s my question for you : would you consider decreasing the max thumbnail size so we can make nice and working galleries ?

Not at this moment. I can’t oversee the impact and this will require rescaling over 400,000 assets, so it’s not an ‘inexpensive’ change.

I didn’t foresee that.
Although, note that with the current max size, I had to increase the dimensions of some of the images in this small “Statues” gallery in order for them to work with the slide show. Which means if this becomes a thing, it will unnecessarily increase the amount of data uploaded to the site on the long run.

Here’s a biggie : the new blenderartists is https.
- What ? it was not before ? That’s crazy !
- I know.

Actually, it was before.

I checked my old Chrome bookmarks which I didn’t change for a long time and the address is http://blenderartists.org/forum/

It automatically redirected http to https

Our new HTTPS is BETTER than the old HTTPS though

Being an admin of this forum you are most likely right, though I wonder why the bookmark was saved in http at the first place. It will remain a mystery.

in what way ?
