Funky Particle "path" - SOLVED

http://loklomedia.com/blender/issue.jpg

This is a regular emitter plane with default settings (plane scaled down). This scene has I think 12 other emitter/curve guide systems, with all guides set with min-dist appropriately. There are no deflectors or other force fields. There is no guide controlling this emitter - I just want it to shoot particles straight out from the face of the plane. I move the emitter around a little, and the funky cuved shape changes a little here and there, but with no apparent reason.

I need a volunteer (PM me) to look through the scene and try and figure out what in the world is going on. I won’t make this a public download since the file is 19mb large. (I’ll send you the link to my webserver).
Takers? (need this ASAP).

are you using lattice deformation to control the path of the particles? because the last time i tried that, i would get the same thing happening, when trying to emit from a plane. What would happen was the plane kept changing shape whenever i moved it or adjusted the path of the particles.

no lattices anywhere.

i can take a look at it. there are no guarantees i can figure it out, but i’ll try!

schnell: i have the file, and i am looking at the animation you have. everything seems fine, except for the plane. It seems in edit mode that the plane is 4 verts, but in object mode it takes on the shape you described above. Now, if you could explain a little detail about the problem you are having, i might be able to look a little deeper.

EDIT::: got to run to class, but i will be back in an hour or so. then i can look a bit more at your file. I figured out a few things, though. the strange shape is because there are 1000 particles emitting from the plane. try turning that number down to like 100, and you can see the new result of the particle emitter. also, i haven’t been able to recreate what you described: moving the plane around and it changes shape.

well it is 4 verts, I have Static enable so that I can more quickly see what is affecting it. I created the emitter from a fresh mesh (not a copy). I don’t want any fields, curves or other things to affect it…just want straight particles coming out (with arrows dupli’d to it) showing the oil outlet of the system. I can’t figure out what curve guide (only thing it can be) that is distorting my system.

reducing the number of particles had no effect for me…also moving the emitter (in top view) in the x direction back and forth changes the shape slightly. In other words there is something dynamically controlling the shape of that path.

Any others want to try and look at this? I’m running out of time and ideas.

FIGURED IT OUT

I had two guides which didn’t have Max-Dist turned on. which were counter acting my emitter and giving reverse/combined guide effects on my emitter (which isn’t even a little bit close to the other guides).

Thanks for the help!!!
(I guess is always helps to “talk out loud” as I was preparing another screenshot to show and found the problem).
