Hi I am trying to create Fur on a horse and it is giving me all kinds of fits. Does anyone have any tutorials that would help me or can anyone think of what I might be doing wrong I will post a picture to show what I am coming up with. Thanks for any help at all.
You’ll have an hard time if you want to do mainly a specular fur, like a black( I mean dark, not only black) dog, black horse, black panther and so on.
You can have good result with more diffuse like fur(with bright colors and less specular visible),but for shiny/velvet look Blender currently lacks in how the specular is computed.
Here you go:
Double post - ignore.
Fur will always give fits, believe me, i know!
- You need vertex groups to control where there should/shouldnt be any fur (see LiquidApe’s link)
- The hairs need an alpha blend mapped along the strands (see LiquidApe’s link)
- Spend some time on combing the hair guides, it makes a huge difference
- Check this tutorial too - http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Furry It will help you with the lighting/shadows/render setup. Also, if you’re using 2.5 there is a new “deep shadow map” method for spotlights which gives good results.
- You can also download this file - http://www.blendswap.com/3D-models/animals/brown-fur/ and examine the settings.
Good Luck!
