Started a new project yesterday. It’s going to be, as the title suggests, [a futuristic, sci-fi cityscape

Looks very interesting and i can see the final result! If you ask me from this angle and also based on the scale of the render, i think you should go for daylight, it will need a lot of post processing, but it will show out all the details of render . . . good luck getting George Lucas style end result!

Thanks!

I’m not so sure about going full daylight, because I specifically want to light the streets from street level and have them glow in the shadows of the big buildings. But I did choose on a better sun position I think.

Well the moment i looked at it, it recalled this scene this http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120114235837/starwars/de/images/4/4d/Coruscant_Skyline.JPG

And judging from that, the day scene better shows the details of the landscape and scene itself becomes immediate and shouting, yet night scene of course has it’s own charm, first of all it’s much more complex to achieve well light environment, having it to be a night scene and second if the light (small detail illuminations) are set right, the scene becomes incredibly beautiful.

This scene looks like it is perfect for a bunch of search lights shooting up into the sky and perhaps hitting one of the mega structures here and there.

looks interesting, i was also planning a sci fi city in the future, but now i am modelling a normal city. how do you get this foggy thing in the air?

There’s an option for it under the “world” tab, towards the bottom of the pane. It contains setting that allow you to alter the density, how far it starts, and how high on Z plane it rises.

thanks for the tip, might use that in the future

No problem!
