G.N.O.M.E. Prof

Professor Character for G.N.O.M.E. movie project. (this has nothing to do with gnome) currently about 7 people working on the project. This still needs to be rigged and stuff. Rendered in yafray.
C&C please…http://www.ace-studios.com/gnome/images/gnomeconcept7.jpg

1) I dunno if it is just me, but his lab coat looks way too thin, as in, if I sneezed 25 feet away in his direction, it would fly away thin. But then again, I don’t/can’t see another angle to see if I am correct.

2) More angle shots please?

3) His tops of his hands looks a little flat on the top, as if his hands are facing upward, add knuckles maybe??

Keep up the work

it looks okay, it doesnt seem to have much character though, i am assuming you want a cartoony type of professor.

he needs more detail, like his lips obviously have no thickness to them. and like spiffyandy mentioned, his lab coat needs some thickness and his hands need some thickness ( i dont think they need knuckles). and give him some asymmetry, especially in his hair.

all of that will add up to a more lifelike character who doesnt look so much like a blob of subsurfacing

thanks for your comments, here’s an update with some changes. the hands and the ears still look pretty crappy, but I just can’t seem to get them right.

Looking at the hands in particular, it looks like you need to bow the back of the hand outwards, as this will stop it looking like you cut it out of a sheet of something. Looking at a real hand, it is rarely held flat. - The palm is concave, and the back is convex, with the thumb joined at about a 45 degree angle to the plane of the palm, not to the edge. Also, the Thumb should join to the palm for a longer percentage of the palm length. The knuckles where the fingers join to the hand should ideally be in a bit of a curve, with the palm at the little finger being much shorter than at the index finger, but the palm at the middle finger longer than either. I can’t see if this is correct from the views you give.

Also taper the fingers a little towards the tip, and remember that the tip section of the finger is actually very short, (the tip is roughly 75% of the second section, which is roughly 75% of the first section.)

Hope that helps.
Matt

WOWOWOW technical stuff about hands

I for one, think that the teeth are kinda weird… They have the same gap in the top and the bottom in the middle. I think some deformities there would be nice too…
