I accidentaly pressed ctrl-u when I was in the middle of working on a document and now it opens that when I try to open a new document. I tried reinstalling it, but that didn’t work. Can anyone help me rebuild the default settings?
I don’t know exactly how to do it, but to start I’d open a new document and select everything, then delete it all. Set all your settings the way you want them, delete all of the materials, cameras, etc. And then hit CTRL + U again. I’ll do a little snooping for you though if this doesn’t work. Hope it helps!

To get the default starting file, go into c:\windows\ and delete .B.blend. If you’re on a UNIX, this is probably in the /home directory.
No, it’s not in the /home directory, it’s in the $HOME directory 
And yes, deleting ~/.B.blend gives you the (hard-coded) default scene, which can then be customized again and saved using ctrl-u.
