Game character test animations

Hello Blender community!
So, here is some test cycle animations for a platformer game I’m making with a friend. I made the character and it’s rig (still not satisfied with the scarf part of the rig…) Any comments are welcome!

Walk Side

Run Side

Jump Side

In air Side

Dash Side

Idle Side

Sorry for the bad video resolution, I converted the .avi to gif

Nice work, really enjoyed this character!

My two cents: increase (even if just a little) its roughness. Depending on the light its tattoos kind of disappear (or maybe increase the contrast between them).

Also maybe just give some geometry to its eyes. In the last gif (idling) you almost lose them, visually speaking (I think they wouldn’t read well in a smaller size).

And lastly its gloves could be a little bigger, and if they are important from a game mechanic perspective, they could also have a different color from the scarf, to avoid confusion.

Again, that’s just my opinion and I would really like to see it in an environment.

Thanks for your two cents! I agree with you : the tattoos disappear and I I tried many things with the eyes… I’m not fully satisfied either.

When I import it as an FBX in Unity, the pupils even disappear for some reason (I think the shrinkwrap modifier on two levels (pupil shrinkwrap on eye, eye shrinkwrap on character) is not exporting the wright way.

I didn’t tought of that for the gloves, but I love your idea! I was brainstorming on how to make a good attack, maybe I could use the gloves to make a big smash on the ground or something.

@Maelys031 I took the liberty of mocking up some of my suggestions:

I created some geometry to the eyes, darkened the pupils and gave a slight green tint to the tattoos. I also made the glove a little bigger and slightly changed the color of the gloves and scarf so they read better as different elements of the character.

I also think that using the gloves to male a smashing attack could be awesome!

Looking forward to see the development of your game!

All the best.

Hello Gustavo_Rinaldi,

I made some adjustment like you proposed. Here is the test. I went with a violet color for the tattoos, I think it stands out a little bit more. I also changed the colors of the gloves and the scarf to make them more readable. I’m still not sure if I want to scale up the gloves. I tried it and it didn’t turn to be super… I sculped them to have a different shape and repainted them.

Hey, that’s awesome!

The violet worked very well. I can see the tattoos clearly now (maybe they can even be a little bit darker, IMHO).

The eyes are also pretty visible from the sides. And I think the gloves and the scarf are working really well together, the gloves don’t need to be bigger, but maybe they can grow during the smash attack, then return to their normal size.

Again: it’s getting awesome and I hope to see more!

All the best.

First animation play test in the game. There is still some issues with the falling animation and the double jump, but it is starting to look like something!
