Game play character modeling & cut scene character modeling

Hello, i am a newbie Blender user and have been going through tutorials on character modeling. I understand the process in making a low poly character for game play: model base mesh, sculpt, re-topology, unwrap, texture, rig and animate.

I do however need some clarification on where during this process I would make changes for cut scenes, as in most games the cut scenes have better looking characters.

Is it just a simple matter of saving at the low poly stage and then continuing with more polys for the cut scenes. If so what would be the difference in poly count, is there an industry standard for low poly and high poly?

Or can I just use the sculpted model in cut scenes?

Any advice in this area would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

usually cut scenes are just video files. so you can make the models / scenes as high poly and nice looking as you want. use mesh trees instead of alpha textures for example. then you just render the video, add it to your game, and since it’s a video file, poly count is irrelevant.

Thanks for your response.

Would it be wise to use the sculpted version of the model, or would the poly count be too high and take too long to render on a home pc?
