Gaston Lagaffe / Guust Flater Model ... attempt

I knew I had to bite the bullet sometime and model Gaston Lagaffe / Guust Flater. And I knew this would be tricky, converting a 2D character to 3D. And character modelling isn’t really my strong suit. But if you don’t try anything new, you’ll never learn anything new. So here we go!

I took me about a day to get something that vaguely resembled the character. And another day to sculpt hair, shoes and clothing. I’m still not happy about how the head/face turned out, but I try to see it as a learning experience. Learned a lot about the hair particle system and sculpting. And I learned what not to do next time

I love this it’s really good. You should make a rig for it

I started out with a rigged model. But abandoned the idea after modelling the sweater, shoes and pants. If I would want to do this right, I should first retopo the model

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

You’ve really caught the character! Loved the process pictures, lol. From stick man to cartoon legend!
