General AI Discussion

It’s not my example, it’s their example. This is the example their trailer is giving me, this is how they’re trying to sell me their product. I am but a humble consumer of the slop, I have no opinions of my own except the ones told me by an advertising agency. Forgive me my transgressions if I have irked you Sire.

Yeah well, it’s not about what “consumers” really do with the tech, but what “sellers” think should be advertised. And so far it’s the same nonsense about outsourcing the most basic tasks that should not be outsourced in most cases (like talking to people or remembering stuff you did yesterday).

You did not irk me at all - it is just a poor example. There are better examples when using Canva or Claude Design.

Btw where did you see that advertisement.

Would be good to see it myself

If people think to design with AI well that is a story on its own considering what AI only is.

In the end this is just the next evolution of template design and pretending being in control.

For some this might also all they need - sadly. But doing good layouts in slides is not something most scientists are trained in or taught. One reason why I don’t accept power point presentation and only work done in adobe or Affinity.

This will be interesting to follow.
Like with every new product you have a hype around it while with AI this seems to be extreme also because it is now a battle between east and west.

Once you filter out all the influencer stuff the picture is a lot more clear.

It is somewhat interesting how AI can work well for basic coding - but when asking more complex factual questions you can get results based on Facebook or Redit results which shows you really how flip flop the AI result can be.

If people don’t see that then good luck for them.

yaaaaaay! I was hoping they would do this.

My first reaction after reading about the acquisition was the same… but then I learnt that KitBash CEO is very pro ai, so my hope died… Nevertheless, they either take hands off approach for now and allow ArtStation staff make their own decisions again, or they do understand the target demographics for the site.

I filed it under “too little, too late”.
Or rather: hypocrisy.

I guess they got all they wanted in regard of scraped images.

The acquisition of HF by NVIDIA is also interesting.

In recent time NVIDIA got a lot of competition from other chip makers.

I wonder how true is all these Astra promotional post on Twitter, one of them show entire process where they let AI control Blender and its took AI 4 hours to make amateur looking Bat model and cost them entire token. Hard to believe all those post that show just a final result and few vague WIP (which is also look mid)

I’ve been noodling on this. I wonder if it’s really a struggle, or is this really just how they see their product in the world?

We tested it - it is indeed shockingly capable.

Still produces massive amounts of errors.

But this is a model direction where I would slowly start to get concerned because unlike previous image to ai models this models and textures directly in blender.

@marcatore

My point is that every new technology / tool was meet with resistance. Over time they got accepted and part of today’s tools.

Ai company is also not AI company - generalizing isn’t really useful. The topic of training data and author reimbursement is a pretty valid fact - but also here company is not company. Data center is a topic but so is local AI.

Who knows where industry will go.

I work with and teach AI because it is also part of my academic research and industry outreach.

Not teaching students about AI on an appropriate way where it adds value would be a disservice because the industry already adopted it.

Some jobs might get cut but now options do arise.

Was history different - Industrialization ?

Industrialization replaced lots of existing jobs with new jobs, jobs that were created as a response to increased demands in manual labour

I often hear that “AI will make some jobs disappear but it will create many more” but I have never seen anyone give an example of what those jobs would be. The whole point of the AI push from multi-billion dollar companies is to cut costs on human labour in areas that can potentially be automated. I don’t see how that would create any new “exciting opportunities” in the job market

What tech bros want and how industries use it are two different things

It is what it is

You can try to adjust and see how it evolves or not.

We will see how this evolves - market expectations already corrected itself.

Again, see

How about tech bros stop telling the rest of us we have to evolve, and they evolve instead? How about instead of me being forced to admit that AI is the best thing ever and I have to adjust all of my workflows for it, they be forced to admit they’re being annoying and most of us actually don’t care? Why do I have to " adapt" but they don’t?

Why do we have to admit we’re wrong, but tech bros never have to admit that AI loses money hand over fist and there’s no path to profitability?

How about y’all hold yourselves to the same standards you demand the rest of us live up to?

You keep making unsubstantiated claims like these, did AI tell you these?

Market expectations clearly hasn’t corrected itself and is still running on speculative gains and investor money
