Geometry Defroming

HI Everyone I have recently moved to blender from softimage. My question is the following When doing automatic weights on an armature i then add all the vertecies into one of the vertex groups (in my case its spine1) I then make sure all the weight is on that one bone. But the object still seems to deform as if more than one bone is still influencing the geometry? It really shouldn’t deform at all and only be weighted to one bone? What am I doing wrong?

Thank you in advance

¿Are you sure that every other single Bone on that Armature has 0 Weights on that Mesh?

Because, there is a concept in Weight Paint that is Normalization. You can have all red (Weights=1) from a Bone, but if it’s not Normalize, you still could have Weights of different values than 0 from the other bones too.

Maybe you’ve just Weight Painted (without the Option of Auto Normalize turned ON) whole Mesh of the character for spine Bone, but this didn’t took off automatically Weights for the other Bones. Also on Weights Menu there is a Normalizing command for Selected Mesh elements.

Normalization is great for organizing Weight Paint workflow, but there are complex Organic Rigging Mesh Deforming cases (like joints, pelvis and shoulder regions) Normalization or Auto Normalization is actually a problem.

Hi Pxy-Gnomes and thank you for your reply. I have removed all other vertex groups so in theory it should all be weighted to just the one no?

Also if I look at the painted weights it all red with a value of 1 as well. I have normalized it as well. I bought the lazy weights addon and it seems to have fixed it a bit but its still not 100% right.

I see you mention the pelvis region as being a problem and that is exactly where the issue is ironically. It doesnt seem to happen in other regions of the rig.

Thank you again for your time
